The common faults, and what they usually cost to fix
Most hot water calls in Hamilton are one of a handful of faults. A relief valve that drips or runs. A tempering valve that’s stuck, giving a shower that’s too hot, too cold or swinging between the two. An element or thermostat that’s failed, so the water’s cold or runs out fast. A fitting weeping onto the floor. Each one is a part we carry on the van and a job that’s often done in under an hour. None of them means a new cylinder, and we’ll never sell you one to fix a valve.

When a repair stops making sense
A cylinder leaking from the tank itself, one that’s rusting through, or one that’s needed repeated repairs is at the end of its life, and we’ll say so. In that case you get the replacement options in writing, like for like next to a mains-pressure or heat pump upgrade, and you decide. On a Rinnai Infinity, a unit past about 15 years with a major fault is usually better replaced than repaired, and we’ll give you both numbers.

What happens when you get in touch
The same four steps on every job, so you know what's coming.
- 1
You get in touch
Call, or send the quote form with a few photos. We take the details and book a time to look at the job, or quote from the photos if they show enough.
- 2
Written quote, usually the same day
We send the quote the day you ask. For common jobs the pricing is ready, and we tell you if a repair will do instead of a replacement.
- 3
The job
Non-urgent jobs are usually done within a week. Water or gas is off for the minimum time, and you do not need to be home if we can get access.
- 4
Paperwork and tidy up
Gas work comes with a gas safety certificate, and consented work with the PS3, pressure test and as-laid drainage plans the council needs. Then we clean up and invoice.

Hot water repairs: your questions
The relief valve on my cylinder drips all the time. Is that a problem?
A little discharge when the cylinder heats is normal. A constant drip or a steady run means the valve has failed or the pressure is wrong, and it's wasting hot water. It's usually a quick valve replacement.
No hot water at all. What's the likely cause?
On an electric cylinder: a tripped breaker, a failed element or a thermostat. On a Rinnai or other continuous-flow unit: a fault code, ignition, or the gas supply. We find the cause before quoting anything.
The hot water runs out fast. Can that be fixed?
Often, yes. A failed lower element, a thermostat set too low, or a tempering valve problem can all make a cylinder feel too small. If the cylinder is genuinely undersized, we'll tell you and give you options.
My shower goes hot and cold.
That's usually a tempering valve or a pressure imbalance, sometimes the shower mixer itself. It's a repair, not a new cylinder.
Can you fix it today?
We carry the common valves, elements and thermostats, so if we can get to you today the repair usually happens the same visit. Call us and we'll tell you where you sit in the day.
