Repair first, replace when it’s needed
Hot water repairs are the work we do most. A cylinder that’s dripping, running cold or tripping the power is often a valve, an element or a thermostat, and that’s a fraction of the cost of a new cylinder. We check that first and tell you straight. If the tank itself is leaking, or it’s old enough that another repair doesn’t make sense, we say so and quote the replacement.

Tron Plumbing and Gas is a Hamilton business, owned and run by Ben Gardiner, a certifying plumber, gasfitter and drainlayer with 13 years in the trade. You deal with the same local team from your first call to the finished job: no call centre, and no being passed between trades.
Quotes are written and free. For cylinders and Rinnai units we can usually quote from a few photos, and we send quotes the day you ask. Non-urgent jobs are usually done within a week.
Gas and drains too, from the same business
Most hot water jobs touch gas or drainage somewhere: a gas Infinity unit, a hob swap while the kitchen’s open, a drain that’s backing up behind the house. Because our work is signed off under certifying licences in all three trades, you don’t need a second plumber, a separate gasfitter or a separate quote. Gas work comes with its gas safety certificate, and consented work with the PS3 and as-laid plans the council needs.

Non-urgent jobs are usually done within a week. Water or gas is off for the minimum time, and you do not need to be home if we can get access.

Gas work comes with a gas safety certificate, and consented work with the PS3, pressure test and as-laid drainage plans the council needs. Then we clean up and invoice.

We're based in Hillcrest and work across Hamilton every day. Te Awamutu, Otorohanga and Cambridge are fine too, and we'll travel up to about 30 km for smaller jobs.
Before you book
The questions we get asked on nearly every job.
How quickly can you get here?
Non-urgent jobs are usually done within a week of the quote being accepted. For urgent hot water or gas problems, call us: we'll tell you straight when we can get there, including after hours if it can't wait.
Do I need to be home?
Not if we can get access. For a cylinder in a cupboard we need to get inside, so a key, a code or someone home works. Pets are fine as long as they can be kept out of the way while we're working.
Will the water or gas be off for long?
Only for as long as the job needs. For a cylinder swap that's a few hours; for a valve repair it's often under an hour. We tell you before we start.
Do you give fixed prices?
We give written quotes. Most jobs are priced before we start, and for common hot water jobs the pricing is ready, so you usually have it the same day you ask. We don't publish prices because every house is a bit different.
How do I pay?
Bank transfer or card, with seven days to pay the invoice. For bigger jobs with new customers we ask for a deposit before ordering the gear. Builders and agencies are on the 20th of the following month.
Are you a Master Plumber?
Our work is signed off by a certifying plumber, gasfitter and drainlayer licensed with the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board, which is the licence that lets us certify our own work. Master Plumbers is a trade association, and we join in March 2027.
