Hob swaps and new gas points

The usual job is a like-for-like swap: the old hob out, the new one connected on a new hose or hard pipe with an isolation valve, leak tested, certified, and the old one taken away. If your new hob is set up for natural gas and you’re on bottles, we fit the LPG jets as part of the install. If you’re going to gas for the first time, we run a new point from the bottles or meter and certify the lot. We also disconnect and cap gas hobs for people going induction, with the certificate for that too.

What to send us for a quote

A photo of the old hob from above, one of the cupboard underneath it (so we can see how it’s connected), and the model number of the new one. That’s usually enough for a written quote the same day. If your kitchen is being renovated, loop us in before the benchtop is cut so the cut-out, the gas point and the regulator all end up in the right place.

What happens when you get in touch

    You get in touch

    Call, or send the quote form with a few photos. We take the details and book a time to look at the job, or quote from the photos if they show enough.

    Written quote, usually the same day

    We send the quote the day you ask. For common jobs the pricing is ready, and we tell you if a repair will do instead of a replacement.

  3. 3

    The job

    Non-urgent jobs are usually done within a week. Water or gas is off for the minimum time, and you do not need to be home if we can get access.

  4. 4

    Paperwork and tidy up

    Gas work comes with a gas safety certificate, and consented work with the PS3, pressure test and as-laid drainage plans the council needs. Then we clean up and invoice.

Gas hobs and cooktops: your questions

Can I install a gas hob myself?

No. Connecting a gas appliance is gasfitting and has to be done and certified by a licensed gasfitter. An uncertified hob can void your insurance and is dangerous if it leaks.

I've bought the hob already. Can you fit it?

Yes. Send us the model number and a photo of the old hob and the cupboard underneath. Most like-for-like swaps are a single visit.

Does the hob need converting for bottled gas?

Many hobs ship set up for natural gas and need LPG jets fitted for bottles. We check the model and do the conversion as part of the install.

Can you run gas to a kitchen that doesn't have it?

Yes, from the bottles or the meter to a new point behind the hob. We'll quote it from a photo of the route and the kitchen.

What about the benchtop cut-out?

If the new hob is a different size, the benchtop needs cutting first. We'll tell you the dimensions; a joiner or benchtop installer does the cut, and we fit the hob.
